
American chestnut trees planted at the Bronx Zoo
The Bronx Zoo planted 20 young American chestnut trees on Monday. A blight that killed nearly 4 billion of these trees was first recorded at the zoo in 1904. These are the first chestnuts planted there since. They're hybrids, bred to resist it.
