
A Nobel for a telescope made of South Pole ice
Francis Halzen has won the Nobel Prize in Physics for IceCube, his 1988 idea to turn a cubic kilometre of South Pole ice into a telescope. Its light sensors catch neutrinos, ghostly particles from deep space that pass through Earth, and us, unnoticed.
