New Zealand’s heaviest insect is recovering

New Zealand’s heaviest insect, the wētāpunga, was once down to one island. Auckland Zoo and Butterfly Creek bred them and released 11,000 at 10 predator-free sites. On two islands, at least four generations have now been born in the wild. via NZ Department of Conservation
